A simple circular badge: a red cross pattée over the years 1119–1312. No slogan, no battle scene — just the mark and the conventional span of the Order.

Founded in Jerusalem around 1119–1120, the Order was suppressed, not formally condemned, by Pope Clement V’s bull Vox in excelso in 1312. The 1119 on the badge is the conventional founding year (c. 1119). Modern historians often date the vows to late 1119 or early 1120; William of Tyre puts the founding in 1118. The red cloth cross on the mantle came later, in the time of Pope Eugene III (1145–53), according to William of Tyre — so the years mark the Order’s life, not the date the cross first appeared.

Distinct from our Pauperes Commilitones badge, which carries the Order’s full Latin name. This one is the quieter everyday mark. An independent design, not affiliated with any organization.

The shirt is the Bella+Canvas 3001: lightweight 4.2 oz. jersey in Airlume combed and ring-spun cotton, with side seams, shoulder taping, and a classic unisex fit. Solid colors are 100% cotton; heather colors contain polyester. Pre-shrunk; a little sheer in lighter colors.

Care: machine-wash cold, inside-out, on a gentle cycle; tumble-dry low or hang-dry; don’t iron the print. Printed on demand when you order.
