A title block for Bernard of Clairvaux’s treatise Liber ad milites Templi de laude novae militiae — “In Praise of the New Knighthood.” The design carries the work’s title plus Bernardus Claraevallensis and Ad milites Templi only. No invented body text, and no facsimile claim.

Bernard of Clairvaux wrote De laude novae militiae for the Templars, addressing Hugh de Payens, sometime between the Order’s early years and Hugh’s death in 1136. In it, Bernard answers Hugh’s repeated request for a written exhortation and calls the Templars a “new kind of knighthood” unknown before — one that combines the life of the monk and the soldier. The treatise is not the Latin Rule (approved at Troyes in January 1129); Bernard did not write the Rule.

An independent design, not affiliated with any organization.

The hoodie: a soft fleece pullover.

Care: machine-wash cold, inside-out, on a gentle cycle; tumble-dry low or hang-dry; don’t iron the print. Printed on demand when you order.
